Hot! Hot! Hot!
Typical summer day in Tokyo with high humidity...
Yet I ran this triathlon and finished!
Swim was in the grime of the Nissan factory mini-port (Tokyo Bay)
with the lap-course bike and run through the factory grounds
and test track...some good friends came out and showed their support
both during and after the race!
Taihen O-sewa ni narimashita!
Excellent excuse to fly to the Big Island for a weekend...
After securing lodgings and a rental car in Hilo I sped up to the volcano
for the traditional day-before-race carboloading dinner & check-in
The air up there was immaculate! To think, the next morning
we'll be running through this high-altitude paradise in the
5 mile Kilauea Caldera Run!
Above pics taken with a disposable camera I ran with, carried in my shorts (yicky!)
to try and catch those Kodak moments I knew would be had in this landscape and
setting which I doubt I will get another chance to see
One weekend a few summers ago I tried
running up this "hill"
All runners spent the previous night at a nearby "minshuku"
Above I am pictured with my roommate for the race (from France)
who flew in from Hong Kong just for this thing
He is into "Ultra's", you know,
like running across
Death Valley, 24-hour long marathons, etc.
'guess this was just "peanuts" for him
A few Springs ago we rented a car and drove to Gunma Prefecture
to race in the
Tour De Kusatsu basically, a race through a hot spring resort
for the first 2 miles or so then a torcherous climb up all
the way to the finish
Great times! Wonderful weekend!
My first triathlon
Ran as part of the Kimitsu Tetsujinkai (photos with members above)
which was a group of runners from my town who were nice enough to invite
me to train with them and to even have me join their club
Thank you Director Tateno-san...
(not pictured - too busy timing us and taking these pics)
...a great weekend was had indeed!
Summer 1999 at a race I used to run every year in high school
with the guys - The
Putnam County Classic 8-Miler
Kita-Ibaraki Triathlon
Drove up the coast for a weekend getaway mixed in with a
51K triathlon. It was the first time where I actually felt good coming
out of the swim - I think, due to the fact that I finally learned
how to "properly" wear a wetsuit...
making all the difference in the world! (take note first-timers!)
